Scale (oxide) formed on the surfaces of hot-rolled coils is removed by passing them through hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid baths, and they are then coated with a protective oil to prevent re-oxidation.

The product, known as Acid-Cleaned Sheet, is shipped to the customer in coil form or, upon request, cut to size or slitted.

General Applications

Hot-rolled sheets are not always suitable for use due to the scale on their surfaces.

These grades—hot-rolled, acid-cleaned, and oiled—are specifically used for forming processes such as bending, drawing, and deep drawing. These products can be used in all applications that do not require precise surface quality but demand strength, rigidity, and formability. In particular, sheets with acid-cleaned surfaces are used in the machinery manufacturing sector and the automotive supply industry. Since acid cleaning of the sheet surface is easier and more economical compared to post-machining processes, manufacturers prefer acid-cleaned material.

High-strength steels suitable for cold forming can be used in all applications requiring high strength, high impact and fatigue resistance, and formability.

They are also successfully used in the manufacture of LPG cylinders and in pipe and profile production.

Structural steels, which are generally suitable for construction sector applications, are steel grades that particularly feature high strength, formability, and weldability.
