Galvanizing

To increase the corrosion resistance of steel sheets, their surfaces are coated with zinc using either the hot-dip or electroplating method. The coating is typically applied at a total of 100–300 g/m² on both surfaces. A chromate solution or oil is applied to the coated material’s surface to protect it against white rust.

Advantages Over Cold-Rolled Steel

High Corrosion Resistance: Zinc coating provides excellent corrosion resistance to galvanized material because zinc acts as a barrier against corrosive elements. The final service life depends on the coating thickness and the corrosiveness of the environment (humid, salty, etc.).

Excellent surface appearance: It can be used without requiring any surface treatment.

Formability: Since galvanized sheets retain their forming properties, they can be deep-drawn and easily shaped.

Paintability: It can be easily painted after appropriate surface pretreatment. This allows it to be painted prior to use, enabling it to be supplied to the end user as painted sheet metal and to be formed.

Weldability: It can be welded using many common welding methods.

General applications

Galvanized sheet metal, which offers excellent corrosion resistance and is highly suitable for painted applications, is the material type that best meets the requirements of the automotive industry. It is used by automotive manufacturers in the production of both interior and exterior components, thereby enabling a lifetime warranty against corrosion.

In the construction industry, hot-dip galvanized sheet metal is used for roofing applications after being formed into the appropriate shape.
